Assistant Principal

My first experience in the field of education was teaching part time at a private preschool. I enjoyed teaching young children very much. I learned first-hand the positive and long-lasting effects high quality early childhood education programs can have in a child's life.

When my children were in middle and high school I went back to school, graduating from Westminster College in Elementary Education. I continued my education eventually earning my English as a Second Language endorsement, Advance Reading Endorsement, Early Childhood Endorsement, K-12 Administrative Certification, and M.Ed.

My first public teaching position was working with students living in poverty. These amazing and resilient young people taught me many valuable lessons. Most notably, I learned that by creating a positive and safe learning environment, incorporating student choice, celebrating mistakes as opportunities to learn, and differentiating instruction, student learning increased. I have had diverse and rewarding professional opportunities. I taught grades K-4, worked with teachers as an academic and positive behavioral instruction coach, and served for years as a district curriculum specialist providing literacy and reading intervention professional development for administrators and teachers in a large school district. I have been an administrator as well. When I was offered the opportunity to join Mountain West Montessori Academy's administrative team I couldn't say "Yes" fast enough. The innovation, differentiation, and positive culture make it an amazing place to be! It is exciting to share my educational and professional development experience with such an established and thriving school culture.

Personally, I have been happily married for 36 years. We are the proud parents of three grown children, in-laws to three amazing son and daughters-in-law, and grandparents to three adorable grandchildren. When I am not working, I enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, exercising, and playing the piano and organ.
