Hello! I am the second Laura on the Upper Elementary team at MWMA. The students call me ‘Ms. Laura B.’ I am originally from upstate New York and fell in love with the west while camping in Colorado at age 10. I moved to Colorado to attend college, earning a degree in American History and Political Science with a minor in Art.
I became interested in the Montessori method of teaching and obtained my Montessori credentials at Westminster College. I enjoy teaching the interdisciplinary curriculum and love the hands-on learning that takes place in the classroom. Maria Montessori believed in following the child’s interests and I strive to act as a guide by exposing the student to multiple subjects so they can find their passions early in life. I love to learn and hope to share my curiosity and wonder about the natural world so that children will see school as a place of discovery and be enthusiastic about the process of learning. My teaching goal will always be to help develop life-long learners! I love to teach most subjects, especially science, history and writing.
In my free time I love to garden and learn about native plants as well as drought tolerant plants from all over the world. I have a long term goal of developing a water-wise, native habitat in my yard capable of supporting wildlife, especially bird species. I have three indoor cats named Rosie, Dash and Mr. Blue. I love to hike, snowshoe, ice-skate, cross country ski and walk fast. I enjoy cooking, watching foreign films and listening to music. I’m a bibliophile and own way too many books but love sharing them at school. For me, books are a window into another world and I hope your children feel the same way when they’re in my classroom.
