Hello! My name is Hailey Mowen and I've been with Mountain West Montessori Academy for several years now. I love the Montessori method since it mirrors my own philosophy of children reaching their full potential at their own pace. There are so many positive effects I've observed in my class as Montessori uses the child's natural curiosity and physical materials to teach principles. My favorite is the mentoring relationship that blooms between the older and younger students. Older students get to 'step up' with many opportunities to teach and it's wonderful. Plus my classroom becomes a place where it's okay to make mistakes and the only person the child competes with is themselves.
For my background, I was born and raised in Utah Valley and graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education at Southern Utah University. After college, I decided to broaden my horizons by teaching English in Japan for two years. It was an enriching ESL experience that taught me how much I enjoy working with multiple ages in small group settings. In fact, it lead me to the Montessori Method and earning my Montessori credential and Level II teaching license through excruciating blood, sweat, and tears.
Some things I'm obsessed with doing are singing, playing tennis, shooting, gaming, sightseeing, and devouring any story I can get my hands on for my inner bibliophile. I believe that trying new things is a fantastic way to grow character and so I'm always open to suggestions for things to try! My next goal for an adventure is to try hiking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. I guess I better start training!
