My name is Alden Thorpe. I believe that teaching is about guiding others to discover what drives them to learn in a safe, respectful environment. As a teacher, my responsibility is to help my children gain a love of learning. The Montessori method at our school provides such a rich foundation for accomplishing both of these goals. I am so excited to work with both computer science and our accelerated students at Mountain West Montessori. We have an amazing team of teachers that will be facilitating student-centered learning and intellectual curiosity for all of our students. I am a graduate of the University of Utah as an early childhood and elementary educator. I was a student teacher in kindergarten at Elk Run Elementary before moving to Mountain West in our very first year.
Outside of teaching, I love learning and being active. Anything that gets me moving is great, especially baseball, martial arts, and frisbee. I have always been interested in astronomy, math, physics, reading, history, and just about anything else. I also enjoy learning new languages. I have picked up (but not mastered) German, Russian, Ukrainian, and some Spanish. There’s nothing like being able to share in someone’s culture and language.
