MWMA Families,

Jog-A-Thon

Friday will be our Jog-A-thon fundraiser.  We are working hard to make this a fun and healthy event.  Student were sent home Monday with pledge envelopes with additional details.    We are hoping that it will be our largest fundraiser of the year.   Funds from these events help support evening activities, expand our library and outdoor classrooms, and fund additional learning experiences for students.  Please help your student to find pledge donors.  Students can win prizes two different ways, 1- by raising pledges and 2- by running laps.  We will be jogging this Friday.  It is a free dress day for students who are participating—we encourage students to join in the fun by wearing crazy socks.

We are still looking for corporate sponsors.  If you are interested you can access the sponsor form here.

We are also looking for volunteers for this event.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact Natalie Copley at   nataliecopley@comcast.net

Outdoor Classrooms

The furniture for the outdoor classrooms has arrived!   We are eager to be able to better use these amazing spaces.  We are in need of some assistance to move this furniture into place.  We are looking to “make the move” Friday Nov 6th, at 1:30.  If you are available to assist us please e-mail Ms. Amy at apilkington@mwmacademy.org

Banned Book Club

We are excited to announce the middle school banned book club.  It will be starting Tuesday the 27th.  We will be reading four different books that are recommended by the American Library Association for teens but have also been on the frequently banned book list.  Sign-up forms in the front office give details about each book, why we think it is great for teens, and what considerations should to be made prior to reading.  Students can read all 4 books or pick just the ones that interest them.  The cost it $16.00 per book or $55.00 for all four.  Funds cover the costs of all books, sacks, and some cool swag.  Students must pay by Friday so that we can order books.

Book Fair

Get a jump on your holiday shopping!   The scholastic book fair will be back again this year Nov 9th-15th.

Literacy Night

Mark your calendars for our Family Literacy Night on Wednesday Oct 11th from 6:00-8:00 pm. SAVE THE DATE for this fun and exciting annual event!

Lunch Fees

In order to remain in compliance with the national school lunch program guidelines we were required to make a change to our school lunch fees.   The new costs are as follows:

            Student lunches $2.50

Adult Lunches $3.30

Slippers/Fire Drills

We had our first fire drill this week.  We will continue to practice for fire drills throughout the year.  As we cannot predict when we may have an emergency that will coincide with poor weather conditions, we highly recommend that elementary students bring hard-soled slippers to wear in the classroom. Middle School students should wear their shoes in the classroom, although they may also wear hard-soled slippers if they prefer.

Volunteering

What makes MWMA so different from other schools?  Is it the beautiful classrooms?  The freedom of choice?  The amazing materials?  It is all of those of course, but it is also the community we are creating.  Looking for an opportunity to be a part of that community?  Why not help us out by joining one of our new committees!  Sign up on our website under the Events and Involvement: Help Make Us Great tab.

A Message from Our 9th Grade Students

Dear Mountain West Montessori Parents,

Our 9th grade students have organized Dollar Denim Days. You or your student pay a dollar to the front office anytime Monday-Thursday in order to get to wear jeans on the Friday of that week. YOU MAY NOT PAY ON FRIDAY! There are 27 Fridays in the year, but if you pay $25 before August 27, 2015, your student may wear jeans the whole year. YOU WILL SAVE $2.

The reason our 9th grade students have organized this is for their Travel Seminar or 9th grade project trip. The students are planning, organizing, and preparing their very own trip. Dollar Denim Days is starting off their trip fundraising. This trip is to teach the 9th grade students about cultures, geography, time management, organization, and working together to plan their own trip.

Thank You for your help and support!
